CMS
Clarifies Part A Billing for No-Payment Claims
CMS has published
a new MedLearn
Matters article that explains the circumstances under which
a skilled nursing facility must submit a no-pay bill. Facilities
must submit a bill for a beneficiary who...
-
has
started a spell of illness under the Part A benefit for every
month of the related stay even though no benefits may be payable.
-
has previously received Medicare-covered skilled care and subsequently
dropped to a non-covered level of service but continues to reside
in a Medicare-certified area of the facility.
This
article reflects no changes in existing policy, but further clarifies
the requirements outlined in Chapter 6 of the Medicare Claims Processing
Manual, SNF Inpatient Part A Billing.
For
the complete text of the article, please visit the CMS website at
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/MLNMattersArticles/downloads/MM5840.pdf.

Reminder:
NPI is here!
By
now, all facilities should be using their NPI (National Provider
Identifier) for all Medicare claims. Effective March 1, 2008, all
Medicare 837P and CMS-1500 claims must have the NPI or NPI/legacy
pair in the required fields on the form. Claims that do not
include the NPI are now being rejected.
If
you are still submitting (and being paid for) claims with both an
NPI and a legacy number, CMS advises that you should now be testing
your ability to get paid using only your NPI. You can do this by
submitting one or two claims with only the NPI. As of May
23, 2008, claims that include legacy identifiers will be rejected.
For
complete infomation on NPI compliance, visit the CMS website at
http://www.cms.hhs.gov/NationalProvIdentStand/06_implementation.asp.

Tips
& Techniques: Refresh Your Training Database
With ULTRACare
Version 15.11, you now have the ability to refresh the data in the
training database without having to contact your support representative
to correct the name. To do this, two things must be true. You must
have the name "Train" somewhere in the company name of
the training database and that company must be set up to be excluded
from Consolidated Reporting in Company Logicals.
Initial
Setup: In ULTRACare Utilities, change company to the Training Database
you want to copy data to. Select Utilities, Training DB License
Utility from the menu. Choose BACKUP Training Config. This step
only needs to be run once to create the file that holds the company
name and licensing.
To
refresh your data:
Step 1: Manually copy the database files from your live company
to the training company.
Step
2: In ULTRACare Utilities, change company to the Training Database
you copied data to. Then select Utilities, Training DB License Utility
from the menu. Choose RESTORE Training Config.
You
are now set to use the training database for new employees or to
test possible changes you anticipate making in your setup.
Repeat
Steps 1 and 2 as often as needed to refresh the data in your Training
database.
